A Holistic Approach To Well-Being at APU
School of Psychology’s Complimentary Health Talk & Spine Check for APU/APIIT Staff embodies the ethos of the 'Social' in ESG, focusing on the well-being of the university's human capital
The School of Psychology (SoP) at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) brought in Chiropractic First Group to organise a Complimentary Corporate Health Talk and spine Check for the APU/APIIT community on the 3rd of November 2023. This event embodies the social aspect of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles by prioritising the health and well-being of its staff.
This event, aimed at promoting overall well-being and providing valuable insights into maintaining a healthy spine, was a testament to the synergy of physical and mental health. It illuminated the often-overlooked connection between a healthy spine and a healthy mind.
Good spinal health plays a pivotal role in not only our physical comfort but also our mental clarity and emotional balance. By fostering proper spinal alignment and reducing physical discomfort, we can significantly decrease stress and anxiety levels, leading to an improved state of mental well-being. Additionally, a healthy spine contributes to better sleep patterns, increased energy levels, and a more positive outlook, all of which are crucial for optimal mental health. Participants gained not just an understanding of spinal care, but also insights into how taking care of their physical bodies can be a vital step towards achieving mental resilience and a more harmonious state of mind.
Key Highlights of the Event:
Educational Health Talk: Participants were enlightened by experienced chiropractors who shared in-depth knowledge about spinal health. The talk emphasised the importance of maintaining a healthy spine, offering practical tips for achieving and sustaining a strong and flexible backbone.
Complimentary Spinal Check: Following the talk, attendees had the unique opportunity to receive personalised spine checks from professional chiropractors. This hands-on experience was instrumental in helping individuals assess their spinal health and receive tailored advice.
Computerized Screening: Each employee benefited from a computerised spinal screening, designed to identify any underlying spinal problems. This advanced screening was a highlight for many, providing insightful data on spinal health.
1 on 1 Posture Check and Spinal Evaluation: The results from the screenings and checks were evaluated immediately. During these sessions, the chiropractors also conducted individual posture checks, offering valuable feedback and recommendations.
Q&A Session: The interactive Q&A session allowed participants to engage directly with chiropractic experts, asking questions and seeking personalised guidance on spinal health and overall well-being.
The event markedly elevated the discourse on the interconnection between physical health and mental well-being. The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing deep appreciation for the practical insights and hands-on experiences they received. Their enhanced understanding of spinal health was not just an academic takeaway but a step towards personal health empowerment.
