Reaching Out to the Community In Need

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love” – Mother Theresa

With the aim to spread their love to the community during these challenging times, 12 students from the School of Foundation initiated and conducted a food distribution & digital empowerment activity for 50 refugee families in Malaysia, under the leadership and guidance of their lecturer, Ms. Nor Fadilah.

As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted things in Malaysia and the rest of the world, the situation had become even challenging for the refugee community. In view of their challenges, our students conducted fundraising activities and volunteered to reach out to the community. A total of RM60,000 was raised, which were used to purchase food baskets and daily staples such as rice, flour, oil, sugar, salt, vegetables, etc. In addition, to bridge the digital gap, the funds were also used to purchase internet data plans and devices to help refugee children ensure that their online classes were not disrupted. Facemasks, Faceshields and Sanitisers were also distributed.

It was a rewarding experience for the students as they made themselves aware of the challenges faced by the communities. Their passion, dedication, and tireless contributions have made this event a great success during these difficult times.
