Planning to study at APU? Here’s what you need to know about your Student Pass and navigating immigration requirements.

• Student Pass Application Process

  
  All students coming to study in Malaysia must apply for a Student Pass before arrival.
  
  This includes various scenarios such as MM2H (Principal and Dependent), Resident Pass holders, Expatriates, Diplomatic Visa holders, Spouse Visa Long-term Visit Pass holders, and more.
  
  You must obtain the necessary visa approval before your entry into Malaysia.

   

• Permission to Study

  
  Depending on your visa category, you may require a stamp of “Permission to Study” on your passport from the Malaysian Immigration.
  
  For verification reasons, this is necessary for several categories, such as holders of diplomatic visas and MM2H Dependents.

   

• Passport Validity

  
  Ensure your passport is valid for at least 28 months beyond your intended period of stay in Malaysia.
  
  You are allowed to hold only one pass at a time, specifically your Student Pass issued by APU.

   

• Pass Expiry and Extension
   

  Monitor your Student Pass expiry date closely.

  
  Apply for an extension at least 3 months before its expiry to avoid penalties for overstaying in Malaysia.

   

• Working Restrictions
   

  While studying, international students are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during semester breaks exceeding 7 days.
   

  Approval from the Malaysian Immigration Department is required for any work.
   

• Leaving and Re-entering Malaysia
   

  Before leaving Malaysia for a holiday, ensure your Student Pass is valid for at least 1 month upon re-entry.
   

  Inform APU of your travel plans and duration of stay abroad.
   

• Passport Renewal
   

  If your passport expires, renew it at your country’s Embassy or Consulate in Kuala Lumpur to transfer your Student Pass endorsement.
   

  Please note, immigration regulations can change. Stay updated by consulting the Malaysian Immigration website or local Malaysian authorities.

Here’s what you need to know to prepare for your travel.

• Booking your Travel

  
  Contact your travel agent to arrange your airline reservation.
  
  During peak travel seasons, flights can fill up quickly, so book your tickets promptly upon receiving your Student Pass approval letter.
  
  If your accommodation is already sorted, plan to arrive in Kuala Lumpur a few days before your course begins to settle in comfortably.

   

• Packing Tips

  
  When packing your luggage, be mindful of airline weight restrictions to avoid excess baggage fees.
  
  Check with your airline or travel agent for baggage allowances and prohibited items.

   

• Clothing Essentials

  
  Malaysia’s tropical climate maintains an average temperature of 29 degrees Celsius year-round, so pack light!
  
  Bring a mix of professional attire for campus and casual clothing for off-campus activities and events.

   

• Personal Touches
   

  Make your new space feel like home by bringing personal items such as photographs or posters.
  
  If you’re carrying electrical devices, note that Malaysia uses a 220-240 volts / 50-cycle AC power system.

  The local currency is Ringgit Malaysia (RM). Easily exchange currencies at banks and money changers across Malaysia.
