Bridging academic excellence with cutting-edge industry practices, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) students stepped into the frontier of Malaysia’s digital future with an immersive industry visit to the CelcomDigi AI Experience Centre (AiX) in Subang Hi-Tech Industrial Park, Subang Jaya, Selangor on 13 October 2026.

Led by Ms Harjinder Kaur, Senior Lecturer and Industry Advisory Panel (IAP) Coordinator, the visit comprised 26 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the Digital Marketing, International Management, and Business Management with a Specialism in Digital Leadership programmes.

Hosted graciouslly by CelcomDigi Innovation Experiential Specialists Mr Rahmat Al-Aziz and CelcomDigi Partnerships & Ecosystems, Innovation Centre Mr Ivan Liu Yu Ern, the visit bridged classroom theory with real-world practice, offering students an exclusive look at how artificial intelligence (AI), 5G connectivity, and emerging technologies are reshaping global industries.

The journey began in CelcomDigi’s Infinity Room, where captivating visual simulations, interactive presentations, and practical case studies introduced the transformative power of 5G networks.

Students discovered how high-speed connectivity forms the backbone of Digital Malaysia — powering smart cities, intelligent industries, remote monitoring, predictive analytics, and data-driven operations across energy, manufacturing, transportation, healthcare, and infrastructure.

Moving deeper into the facility, the cohort explored dynamic technology showcases spanning robotics, wearable tech, and connected devices.

A major highlight was a demonstration of an autonomous robotic dog, illustrating how AI and automated systems perform critical inspection, surveillance, and operational tasks in modern workplaces.

The exploration continued with live demonstrations of connected healthcare systems. Students observed how AI-powered diagnostic tools, intelligent platforms, and connected medical devices assist healthcare professionals in sharpening diagnostic accuracy, streamlining patient management, and delivering personalized care.

Additionally, the showcase covered Industry Revolution (IR4.0) applications, including smart surveillance, Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, and advanced analytics designed to optimize resource allocation and enhance workplace safety.

CelcomDigi highlighted smart farming solutions where AI, drones, IoT sensors, machine vision, and analytics platforms monitor crop health and automate harvesting. Live displays, including automated produce sorting and precision crop monitoring, demonstrated how data-driven techniques enhance food security and agricultural sustainability.

To conclude the tour, students interacted with next-generation educational technologies.

Featuring virtual reality (VR) simulations and interactive learning environments, the segment illustrated how immersive tools boost engagement, improve knowledge retention, and support skill development across various sectors.

“What we thought would be a trip seeing servers, cables, and data plans turned out to be something completely different,” said Mariam Saad Osmani, a Digital Marketing student.

“CelcomDigi uses AI in healthcare diagnostics, predictive maintenance, smart farming, and traffic monitoring. We was impressed by how AI is transforming entire industries beyond telecommunications.”

Ana Sofie Halbig, an International Management student, shared that it was fascinating to witness innovations spanning security, healthcare, agriculture, urban development, and architecture.

“The collaboration on medical robotics demonstrated how international partnerships can drive meaningful technological progress,” she said.

Lowis Dietz Kogge, a Business Management with Digital Leadership student, highlighted that the demonstrations involving drones, smart agriculture, AI-powered safety systems, robotics, and immersive healthcare technologies provided valuable insights into how organisations are applying innovation to solve real-world challenges.

Ruben Tjark Warkotsch, studying Business Management with Digital Leadership, added, “The visit broadened our understanding of AI and reinforced the importance of strategic partnerships in creating innovative solutions. It was inspiring to see how technology can generate value across multiple industries.”

Ms Harjinder Kaur concluded with the necessity of experiential learning in cultivating future-ready talent.

“Industry visits such as this enable students to move beyond classroom learning and witness innovation in action. From AI-powered healthcare and smart agriculture to immersive technologies and advanced telecommunications, our students experienced how digital transformation is creating impact across industries,” she said.
