AMAR Anti-Corruption 2025: Six Institutions, One Fight

Six Angkatan Mahasiswa Anti Rasuah (AMAR) student chapters from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), Saito University College, Newton International University College, and Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) came together for impactful sessions on anti-corruption awareness.

Six Angkatan Mahasiswa Anti Rasuah (AMAR) student chapters from various public and private higher education institutions in the Klang Valley came together to ensure the success of the 2025 AMAR IPT Talk Programme in the Al-Farabi Hall, Faculty of Human Ecology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).

Among the AMAR institutions involved were UPM as the host, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Islam Selangor (UIS), Saito University College, Newton International University College, and Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) with the presence of 180 students and accompanying lecturers.

Deputy Director of the Community Education Division of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), KPKPj Samsul Salip, who officiated the programme’s closing ceremony, stated that student participation in student bodies such as AMAR adds value to students’ academic achievements throughout their studies.

Therefore, he advised students to take advantage of the opportunity to participate in various social development programmes, earning experience and honing soft skills such as organisation before starting work. 

Next, the session featured a sharing session titled ‘My Name is Bond, James Bond’, delivered by Mr Mohd. Nor Lokman Samingan, Head of the Anti-Corruption Initiative Sector, National Governance Planning Division of the MACC.

In this session, Mr Mohd. Nor Lokman shared the modus operandi of MACC when getting any reported cases from the people and how they conducted the investigation. It was a great exposure for students in understanding the integrity of MACC staff while investigating and validating any cases involving corruption. 

The Executive Officer of CSR Al-Ikhsan Sport Sdn. Bhd., Mr Shahril Ahmad, also did not miss out on presenting a sharing titled ‘Zero to Hero’. 

This session encourages students to uphold their personal value system, such as responsibility while completing any tasks given to them. Additionally, Mr Shahril also mentioned the importance of giving back to the society as part of the culture that we must imbued.

A long-waited forum session featuring the Deputy President of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Organisation (PAKAR), Datuk Razim Mohd. Noor and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of APU, Mr Gurpardeep Singh who shared the stage to discuss the topic — AMAR and Youth! ‘Shaping the Future of the Nation’ took place with an interesting input. 

Datuk Razim, in his sharing mentioned about the importance on how students need to engage in any clubs and societies during their university’s life to enhance their soft skills. 

Mr Gurpardeep also sent an important message to students to always uphold their integrity and be ready at university level before they enter their workforce. 

With a challenging world, a well-diversified university can offer a significant contribution to prepare students’ understanding on different work culture, various organisational behaviour and workplace diversity. 

Sugeetha Kesava Pillai, a Data Informatics student, mentioned that the AMAR symposium was well-organised and insightful. All the students learned how MACC handles cases, the value of integrity, and the importance of proper procedures.

“Each session inspired me to act with honesty and responsibility, especially before entering the workforce.”

Meanwhile, Saktiswary Desuvan, President of APU AMAR Student Chapters, expressed that they are truly proud and humbled by the spirit shown during the event at UPM.

“Seeing students come together with open minds and hearts reminded me why this movement matters. The energy, reflections, and unity displayed gave me hope that our generation is ready to stand firm against corruption and lead with integrity. 

“This event was not just a gathering — it was a step forward in building a community that values honesty, responsibility, and meaningful change. Thank you to everyone who made it impactful.” 

According to APU AMAR Advisors Ms Hashanna Abdul Halim and Ms Nurul Farhanah Mohd. Nasir, the session was an eye-opening experience for students to understand the value of integrity, emphasizing its importance not only for themselves but also its impact on society and the country. 

At the end of the session, they hope more engaging sessions between universities, agencies, and industries will take place to help students prepare themselves for their future careers.
