Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) proudly saw 11 student athletes and alumni represent Malaysia at the 33rd SEA Games in Bangkok, winning two Gold Medals in Men’s Cricket and two Bronze Medals in Men’s Wushu.

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) celebrated a proud moment as 11 of its student athletes and alumni represented Malaysia national team at the 33rd SEA Games, held in Bangkok, Thailand from 9 to 20 December 2025.
APU’s student athletes achieved remarkable results, helping Malaysia secure two Gold medals and two Bronze medals.
The Gold medals were claimed by the Malaysia Men’s Cricket Team in both the T10 and T20 competitions.



Among the team members were APU student Vijay Unni Suresh and alumni Virandeep Singh, Pavandeep Singh, Ahmed Zubaidi, and Amir Azim, whose outstanding performances contributed to Malaysia’s success.

The Malaysia Wushu Team delivered a commendable performance by securing two Bronze medals in the Men’s Duilian Bare-Handed category and the Men’s Nanquan–Nandao–Nangun event.
APU student-athlete Bryan Ti Kai Jie played a key role in this success, earning one Bronze medal in an individual event and another alongside his teammates, Wong Zi Hong and Muhammad Danish Aizad Mohd Firdaus Chua, demonstrating strong teamwork and technical consistency.
APU alumni also made a significant impact on the international stage. Pang Pui Yee captured a Silver medal in the Women’s Taolu Changquan, Jianshu and Qiangshu events, before going on to clinch Gold in the Duilian Weapon category together with Loh Yin Ting and Tan Cheong Min.
Sydney Chin Sy Xuan added to the medal tally with a Bronze in the Women’s Taolu Taijiquan and Taijijian events, and later celebrated Gold in the Duilian Bare-Handed category alongside Mandy Cebelle Chen and Loh Yin Ting.
Tan Cheong Min emerged as one of the standout performers, securing two Gold medals in the Women’s Taolu Nanquan, Nandao and Nangun events, as well as in the Duilian Weapon category with Loh Yin Ting and Pang Pui Yee.
Mandy Cebelle Chen also claimed Gold in the Duilian Bare-Handed event with Sydney Chin Sy Xuan and Loh Yin Ting.
Loh Yin Ting further underlined her pivotal contribution to the team’s success by winning Gold medals in both the Duilian Bare-Handed category and the Duilian Weapon category, completing an outstanding overall performance for the Malaysian contingent.

APU’s sole swimming representative, Kelly Teo Yao, competed in three events: the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and the 4 x 200m freestyle relay.
Although she did not secure a medal, her participation was a moment of pride, reflecting her commitment and the honour of representing Malaysia.

“Winning these medals is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of our athletes and alumni. We are proud to see APU talent making a mark on the international stage,” said Mr Ahmad Mohammad, Assistant Manager Sports Development and Student Affairs.
Malaysia national team finished in fourth place overall, winning a total of 231 medals, including 57 gold medals, 57 silver medals and 117 bronze medals.
The 33rd SEA Games not only highlighted Malaysia’s sporting excellence but also underscored APU’s commitment to nurturing world-class athletes and leaders, who continue to inspire both on and off the field.
