APU Boxers Dominate in September Amateur Fights
The APU Boxing Club has made its mark in the amateur boxing circuit with two significant wins in September. Both victories highlight the club’s growing presence in the sport and its dedication to excellence.
On September 14, Sin Zhe Yan, a local student pursuing a BSc (Hons) in Multimedia Technology at APU, secured his first win at the Mega Fight Night Rise Of The Champion 2 in Shah Alam, boasting a fight record of 1-0-0 (1 win, 0 losses, 0 draws).
Just a week later, on September 21, Anvarbekov Akbarbek Rovshanbek Ugli, an International Business Management student from Uzbekistan, extended his record to 2-0 at the Amateur Malaysia Fight League.
The success of these fighters can be attributed to their rigorous training and the guidance of guest coach Mr Usman Khalid, affectionately known as Coach Usman, who was invited by the club to help sharpen their skills. "The consistent training sessions and Coach Usman's guidance have been incredibly helpful in preparing me for these matches," shared Zhe Yan.
In the ring, camaraderie also played a key role. Zhe Yan’s clubmate, Liban Abdullahi Ali, acted as his cornerman during the fight. Liban, a Master of Finance (FinTech) student from Somalia, provided critical support between rounds. Reflecting the club’s diverse makeup, members come from various countries, including Malaysia, Uzbekistan, and Somalia.
The Mega Fight Night event is known for providing a platform to nurture budding fighters, building them from the ground up and allowing them to showcase their skills in front of a passionate audience.
Commenting on the club’s achievements, club advisor Ts Dr Siti Azreena Mubin, Assistant Professor at APU’s School of Computing, proudly said, "Winning these competitions is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and resilience of our club members. These achievements not only bring pride to our club but also inspire every member to strive for excellence. It signifies the strength of our community and the relentless pursuit of our goals. We are incredibly proud and look forward to building on this success."
As the APU Boxing Club continues to train twice weekly, they are determined to build on these victories, with members like Zhe Yan aiming for more success in the ring.
