In alignment with World Mental Health Day, the School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) collaborated with the APU Psychology Society to orchestrate the APU Mental Health Week Campaign, a transformative event held from October 2nd to October 10th, 2023.
Led by Mr. Jaff Choong Gian Yong, lecturer at SoP and advisor of the society, the campaign sought to enhance mental health awareness while fundraising for the 2 Way Special Needs Children Camp, a year-end Environmental, Social, and Corporate governance (ESG) initiative.
The campaign featured a variety of impactful activities, including the Workshop on Stressors: Coping Skills & Strategies, conducted by industry partner Mentcouch Sdn. Bhd., specialising in virtual reality therapy. This workshop, held on October 3rd, provided attendees with valuable insights into stress management techniques.
On October 4th, Ms. Izzati Bashir, lecturer at SoP, led the Workshop on Exploring Your Coping Skills, addressing the contemporary pressures faced by students. This initiative not only tackled immediate stress-related issues but also contributed to the long-term emotional and mental resilience of the participants.
Mr. Jaff Choong conducted the Workshop on Exploring Deeper Intimacy and Connection on October 9th, delving into the intricacies of building profound relationships.
The Centre Point of APU buzzed with engaging activities, such as a booth showcasing the benefits of essential oils for mental health, complimentary mental health screenings, virtual reality therapy sessions, and an opportunity for participants to create personalised tote bags.
In essence, the campaign sparked conversations, alleviated stigma, and encouraged proactive mental well-being within the APU community. It emphasised the importance of holistic well-being, integrating physical, mental, and emotional health, prompting students to adopt a comprehensive view of their health.
The skills and knowledge gained during the campaign are envisioned as enduring tools for students, aiding them in navigating life's challenges during and beyond their academic journey.
Ms. Vinorra Shaker, Associate Head for SoP extended her gratitude towards the team of staff and students at SoP as well as in APU for their unwavering support and contributions in making this event a success.
Further, Mr Jaff Choong extended his heartfelt invitation to APU students and staff to contribute to the 2 Way Special Needs Children Camp, emphasising the transformative impact their donations could have on the lives of children with special needs.
“Your donation is more than just a gesture; it's a ray of hope and a stepping stone towards transformation for children with special needs,” Mr. Jaff expressed. “Let's join hands and make a lasting difference together! Your support has the power to bring smiles, create joyful memories, and unlock potential. Contribute today and be a part of this beautiful journey of change and hope.”
