Malaysia’s largest university-organised career fair reinforces industry–academia collaboration and the nation’s digital talent agenda.
The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) successfully hosted the APU Mega Career Fair 2026, widely positioned as Malaysia’s largest university-organised career fair, bringing together more than 120 companies, over 400 hiring professionals, and more than 11,000 internship and employment opportunities in a single day.
Held with the support of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) on 7 May 2026, the large-scale career fair transformed APU’s campus into a vibrant recruitment and industry engagement hub, welcoming employers from over 20 industries, ranging from banking, telecommunications, logistics, and professional services to AI, cybersecurity, digital technology, manufacturing, gaming, and engineering.
The event featured an impressive total of over 11,000 opportunities, comprising 6,030 full-time positions and 5,090 internship placements, reflecting strong industry confidence in APU’s future-ready graduates. Companies from China, Japan, and Singapore also flew in to recruit talent, while 55% of participating employers were open to hiring international students — further reinforcing APU’s global employability ecosystem.
Among the participating organisations were major industry names such as AIA, Allianz, Maybank, Grab, Huawei, Nestlé, CelcomDigi, PwC, EY, KPMG, Lenovo, DHL, CIMB Bank, BP, Hitachi, Public Bank, Touch ’n Go, Coca-Cola, Maxis, Hong Leong Bank, and many more.
Strengthening Malaysia’s Digital Talent Pipeline
The event was honoured by the presence of Ir Wan Murdani Wan Mohamad, Vice President of Digital Adoption at MDEC, who highlighted the importance of industry–academia collaboration in supporting Malaysia’s aspiration to become an AI nation by 2030.
Speaking during the press conference, Ir Wan Murdani emphasised that the rapid evolution of AI and digital technologies requires a new generation of adaptable and multidimensional talent.
“We have to make sure that the university is capable of producing the right talent in terms of numbers and skillsets,” he said, adding that MDEC continues to work closely with universities through its Premier Digital Tech Institution (PDTI) ecosystem to ensure graduates remain aligned with evolving industry needs.
As an institution recognised by MDEC as a Premier Digital Tech Institution, APU continues to play a key role in nurturing digital talent through industry-relevant programmes, AI integration, and real-world learning experiences.
Prof Dr Ho Chin Kuan, Vice Chancellor of APU, expressed pride in the continued success of APU graduates and the strong industry demand for them, highlighting that their ability to combine technical excellence with adaptability, communication skills, and critical thinking has made them highly valued by employers both in Malaysia and internationally.
“We are proud to see the strong participation of leading global and local companies at the APU Mega Career Fair, as it reflects the growing confidence the industry places in APU graduates. Our graduates continue to distinguish themselves as agile, future-ready professionals who are well-equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital and AI-driven world.
“This is further reinforced by APU’s strong employability outcomes, with our graduates recognised among the highest-paid fresh graduates in the industry — reflecting the premium value employers place on APU’s industry-ready education and robust digital talent ecosystem,” he added.
Beyond a Conventional Career Fair
Since its introduction in 2017, the APU Mega Career Fair has evolved into a highly outcome-driven employability platform that goes beyond conventional recruitment exercises.
This year’s edition featured on-the-spot interviews, direct employer engagements, AI-powered CV clinics, professional resume reviews, employer-led sharing sessions, networking opportunities, and conditional offer letters issued immediately to selected candidates. Students also enjoyed various engagement activities, including booth games, photobooths, giveaways, free refreshments, and interactive employer experiences that contributed to the lively atmosphere throughout the day.
A key highlight leading up to the fair was the “Career Shark Tank” initiative, which allowed students to pitch themselves directly to recruiters, enabling employers to assess candidates beyond traditional resumes.
Students Welcome Greater Industry Diversity and Global Opportunities
For many students, the fair served as a valuable opportunity to explore career pathways, understand industry expectations, and establish direct connections with employers.
Muhammad Nazmir Bin Nor Azlan, 22, a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Technology (Cloud Engineering) student, described the event as an insightful experience that helped him better understand the evolving job landscape.
“It’s really nice to see that APU is taking this initiative every single year because the job landscape is constantly evolving,” he shared. He added that the event exposed him to various opportunities in cloud engineering, cybersecurity, and AI, while also allowing him to network directly with employers.
Meanwhile, Zaher Iqbal Abir, 22, a final-year international business management student from Bangladesh, noted a significant increase in employer openness toward international talent compared to previous years.
“This year, the companies are more forward towards hiring international students,” he said, adding that employers were engaging students from diverse academic backgrounds and nationalities.
Judeana Emmanuelle KC Sathasivam, 22, a psychology student attending the fair for the second time, described the experience as more impactful than applying for jobs online.
“You get to actually talk to employers directly and understand what they’re looking for,” she said, encouraging juniors to take full advantage of such opportunities.
Preparing Graduates for an Evolving Workforce
The strong turnout and industry participation at the APU Mega Career Fair 2026 underscore the growing importance of universities as active talent development ecosystems rather than purely academic institutions.
As industries continue to navigate AI, automation, and digital transformation, initiatives such as the APU Mega Career Fair provide students with early exposure to workforce expectations, practical industry engagement, and future-focused career opportunities.
By continuously bridging academia with industry needs, APU reinforces its commitment to producing agile, industry-ready graduates capable of thriving in both the Malaysian and international job markets.
