Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Bursa Young Investors Club (BYIC) organised a hands-on industrial visit to Bloomberg Malaysia.

The visit brought together students primarily pursuing Banking and Finance, with participation also from International Business Management, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science, and Information Technology, reflecting the growing importance of financial data and analytics across multiple industries.

Accompanied by Dr Ahmad Danial Zainudin (Senior Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), Ms Durrah Dhaniyah (Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), and Ms Noor Fadzilah Mohamad (Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), the visit was organised to bridge classroom learning with real-world financial practices by providing students with first-hand experience of the technologies and tools used by finance professionals worldwide.

Exploring Bloomberg’s Financial Information Ecosystem

The visit began with a series of presentations and an interactive introduction conducted by Mr Koh Kai Lun and Ms Hayley Yee, representatives from Bloomberg Malaysia, who familiarised students with Bloomberg’s extensive ecosystem of financial information and media services.

During the session, students gained insights into Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg News, Bloomberg Radio, Bloomberg Businessweek, and, most notably, the Bloomberg Terminal; a globally recognised platform widely used by financial institutions, investment professionals, and corporations.

Following the introductory session, students proceeded to Bloomberg’s Training Lab for a hands-on practical experience with the Bloomberg Terminal.

Under the guidance of the instructors, they learned how to navigate the platform, access real-time financial market data, monitor market movements, and utilise key analytical tools for investment research and financial decision-making.

Lastly, students reinforced their learning through guided exercises at individual workstations, allowing them to apply the knowledge gained throughout the visit.

This interactive experience helped them develop a deeper understanding of how real-time financial information supports market analysis and strategic decision-making in today’s dynamic financial environment.

The industrial visit to Bloomberg Malaysia provided students with valuable exposure to the technologies, data platforms, and analytical tools that underpin today’s dynamic financial environment.

By combining expert-led sharing sessions with hands-on experience using the Bloomberg Terminal, students strengthened their understanding of how real-time financial information is interpreted and applied within professional settings, while equipping them with practical knowledge and industry insights that will support their academic journey and future careers.
