Building on extensive experience, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) formidable all-female cyber security team, SkyJu1c3, comprising Yeo Jia Qi, Hong Yen Wai, and Wong Wan Yin, secured a remarkable second place in the internationally acclaimed Wicked6 US Cyber Range Competition 2025

Guided by mentor Ms Nor Azlina Abd Rahman from Forensics and Cyber Security Research Centre (FSeC-SS), the trio demonstrated exceptional technical prowess and teamwork throughout the intense, real-time cyberattack simulations.

This prestigious podium finish, achieved despite initially playing just for fun before aiming high, underscores the students’ high calibre, continues the team’s legacy, and reflects APU’s commitment to developing industry-ready cyber security experts with broad knowledge.

Wicked6 is renowned globally for its challenging, real-time cyberattack simulations that demand rapid responses, critical thinking, and effective collaboration under extreme pressure.

Although familiar with Wicked6 Capture the Flags (CTFs) from past participation, team SkyJu1c3 ventured into the unique format of the Wicked6 US Cyber Range Competition for the first time this year (2025).

Team representative Jia Qi shared their competitive journey, “Initially, we were just playing for fun, but when we realised, we got into the top three, we decided to go all out and aim for the championship.

“Even though we did not quite clinch the top spot, we gave our absolute best to secure second place.”

This latest achievement builds on years of dedication. SkyJu1c3 has actively honed its skills through consistent participation in challenging events like the Wicked6 Global Women’s Cyber League Game 2024, Game of Hackers at UniKL City Campus 2024, PETRONAS Inter-University CTF 2023, Blue Team Cybersecurity Challenge - September 2023 (with KC7), UTAR-FICT CTF Competition 2023, and the 4th International Innovation, Technology & Research Exhibition and Conference (ITREXC2023).

Reflecting on the breadth of their field, Jia Qi concluded, “Cybersecurity is a vast domain, we need extensive knowledge across different fields to truly excel.”

This impressive second-place finish certainly proves Team SkyJu1c3 possesses that critical breadth and depth of expertise.

Yeo Jia Qi, Hong Yen Wai, and Wong Wan Yin dedication, hard work, and expertise have truly shone through in this highly competitive event, and this victory is a testament to their exceptional skills in cyber security.
