From 21st to 26th December 2024, a distinguished delegation from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on a formal visit to Oman, cementing ties and exploring opportunities for academic collaboration.
The delegation comprised Associate Professor Dr Jugindar Singh Kartar Singh (School of Business), Associate Professor Dr Senthil Kumar Thiagarajan (School of Accounting and Finance), and Dr Arumugam Sithamparam (Senior Lecturer, School of Marketing and Management).
This visit, initiated at the invitation of Omani defence officials pursuing PhD programmes at APU, was a significant milestone in enhancing APU’s presence in the Middle East.
Prominent Engagements with Diplomats and Officials
The delegation had the honour of meeting His Excellency Sheikh Alabbas bin Ibrahim Alharthi, the Omani Ambassador to Malaysia, and His Excellency Dr Juma’a Ahmed Al-Ka’abi, the Bahraini Ambassador to Oman. These discussions underscored Oman’s growing interest in positioning APU as a preferred institution for doctoral, postgraduate, and undergraduate education.
Three academic sessions formed the cornerstone of the visit, attracting an audience of high-ranking defence officials and PhD candidates. The team delivered impactful presentations on topics including advancements in management research, the role of artificial intelligence in academic writing, and navigating the doctoral journey. These sessions highlighted APU’s structured and innovative approach to doctoral education, particularly in high-demand fields like Corporate Governance and Logistics.
Immersive Cultural and Academic Exchange
Beyond academic sessions, the delegation explored Oman’s rich culture through a visit to Nizwa Souq, a vibrant traditional market. Here, meaningful interactions with local small and medium enterprise proprietors offered insights into Oman’s entrepreneurial landscape.
Additionally, engagements at the Musannah Air Base and the Admiral’s Office provided opportunities to connect with Air Force and Naval officers. A standout moment was a productive discussion with Captain Engineer Ahmed Khamis Alkiyumi, who expressed keen interest in APU’s doctoral programme, setting the stage for future enrolments.
A Vision for the Future
The Oman visit has opened new avenues for academic partnerships, showcasing APU’s commitment to delivering high-quality education on a global scale. As the university deepens its engagement with Oman, these initiatives will reinforce its reputation as a premier destination for higher education in the Middle East.
APU remains steadfast in its mission to foster international collaboration, bridging cultures and advancing knowledge through strategic partnerships.
