Five Academicians Secure Prestigious Grants

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) proudly announces a remarkable achievement by its five outstanding academicians, who have secured significant research grants, marking a milestone in their academic careers.

Innovation and Enterprise Professor Dr Angelina Yee Seow Voon and School of Marketing & Management Professor Dr Mohammad Falahat Nejadmahani have been awarded the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).

This government grant promotes fundamental research activities that generate new theories, concepts, and ideas, catalysing discovery and innovative inventions for knowledge enhancement. APU submitted thirteen applications for the FRGS 1-2024 cycle, and two applications by Dr Angelina and Dr Falahat were approved, amounting to a total grant of RM 174,500.

At the School of Engineering, Associate Professor Dr Lai Nai Shyan and Assistant Professor Ir Ts Dr Alexander Chee Hon Cheong have received the Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science, and Technology Center (CREST) Grant.

CREST facilitates collaborative research between industry and academia, enhancing universities' ability to produce industry-ready researchers and benefiting industry players from the research findings.

Dr Lai and Dr Alex's projects, part of a collaborative effort between the university and industry, aim to grow Malaysia’s R&D ecosystem in the Electrical and Electronics sector. Among the three applications submitted by APU, two were approved, with a total grant of RM 463,500.

Additionally, Dr Angelina, alongside School of Computing Assistant Professor Ts Dr Siti Azreena Binti Mubin, received international funds from the France-Malaysia Collaboration Programme for Joint Research (MyTIGER) and Saganaka Co. Ltd. (Japan), amounting to RM 85,775 in July 2024.

MyTIGER is a joint funding programme aimed at stimulating research cooperation between France and Malaysia, an initiative by the Embassy of France to Malaysia. APU secured one of the two submitted applications. The second research project, funded by Saganaka Co. Ltd., aims to understand start-ups and entrepreneurship growth in the ASEAN region.
