Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) proudly welcomed delegates from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA), including Ms Kartina Tahir Thomson, President-Elect of IFoA, along with other key regional representatives, for an inspiring visit to the campus on 18th July 2024.
The visit aimed to strengthen ties between APU and IFoA, and inspire future actuaries through knowledge sharing and industry insights.
As one of the few universities in Malaysia with a fully accredited Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Actuarial Studies programme, APU’s strong partnership with IFoA ensures students benefit from block exemptions in the IFoA curriculum, enhancing their pathway to becoming qualified actuaries.
Insightful Discussion on the future of Actuaries
Ms Kartina captivated the audience with her insightful talk on “Actuaries role in IR 4.0,” emphasising how technological advancements, particularly artificial intelligence, are revolutionising the actuarial profession.
Additionally, she urged students to embrace these innovations, expanding their expertise beyond traditional practices to become adaptable and future-ready professionals.
The discussion was further enriched by a dynamic Q&A session, where students engaged directly with Ms Kartina, delving into her extensive experience and learning from her personal journey as an actuary.
