In celebration of World Mental Health Day, the School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) held a transformative event on October 14, 2024, under the theme “Mental Health at Work”.
Spearheaded by SoP faculty—including Associate Head Ms Vinorra Shaker, Lecturer Ms Dhevaania C. Gendsen, and Psychology Lab Technician Ms Amirah Husna —the initiative aligned seamlessly with this global campaign, presenting a holistic approach to mental health within the university community.
At the heart of the event were two key highlights: the thought-provoking talk, “Nurturing the Right Mindset”, and the much-anticipated launch of the AP Care App. Dr Diana Jayasauri, an expert in Organisational Change Management, delivered an engaging session that underscored the importance of resilience in tackling life’s challenges. Through her talk, Dr Diana provided practical strategies to support personal well-being, advocating for a culture of understanding and support within academic and professional spheres.
The launch of the AP Care App, introduced by Professor Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam, APU’s Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer (CIEO), marked a significant step forward in supporting mental health across the APU community. Designed to provide accessible mental health resources, the app offers tools, guidance, and support to empower users to manage mental health challenges effectively.
This initiative further strengthened APU’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, underscoring the principle that mental health is integral to a healthy, thriving community.
The day’s programme, filled with enriching discussions and actionable advice, served as a reminder that mental well-being is not just an individual pursuit but a collective responsibility. The event highlighted APU’s dedication to fostering a community of care and resilience.
“Our School of Psychology remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting the mental well-being of our students and staff,” said Ms Vinorra Shaker in her closing remarks. “By cultivating a culture of care and resilience, APU exemplifies its dedication to promoting global mental health objectives and setting new standards for community well-being.”
