APU hosts many runs throughout the year, but none have been as colourful as the APU Colour Run.

Nearly 450 people signed up for the 21st September 2024 Colour Run that had runners covered from head to toe in all kinds of colours. Many students described the experience as the highlight of their semester.

“I didn’t have any expectation when I joined but wow it was amazing! Definitely one of the highlights of my uni life” shared by one of the participants, Fong Wan Yee, who is in her final year.

The run kicked off at 5:00pm with an enthusiastic crowd at the starting line, ready to be splashed with vibrant hues of blue, pink, yellow, and green powder as they made their way through the specially designed 5-km route, with 3 colour stations around the campus.

As runners reached each checkpoint, they were met with volunteers who showered them with colourful powders. Faces lit up, and even those hesitant to get splattered couldn’t resist the contagious joy and joined in the fun.

By the end of the 5-km route, no one was left unpainted; everyone looked like they had run through a rainbow!

Hussain Moizbhai, majoring in Artificial Intelligence, said that it was a nice way to incorporate fitness and fun, as well as bringing people together for an all-around good time.

"I don’t usually go out for runs, but when a friend told me about the color run, I thought it sounded like a fun experience to try," he shared. "I had no idea it would be anything like this."

The event, led by the Student Representative Council (SRC), had been in the works for over two and a half months.

Project Director, Wong Yu Qin shared that it was a privilege to work with the Assistant Project Director, Christopher Lee Jun Liang and a dedicated team of 76 students, including performers, who helped bring this vibrant run into reality.

“Reflecting on the experience, I can’t express how rewarding it has been to lead such a large-scale event for the first time. From witnessing participants cross the finish line with determination to receiving feedback from those who expressed their appreciation, every moment felt like a testament to the hard work of our team.”

“Having Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman joined us made the day even more special.” She expressed

A Fun-Filled Experience for All

The color run was not merely just a race, it was a full-blown event with music, dancing, and cultural performance.

APU Music Club, Rentak Tari Club, and Dance Club gave spectacular performances, while the committee members and volunteers got everyone ready for the race with an engaging warm-up session before the run started.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, we were honored to welcome distinguished guests, Mr. Niyewzuan, Representative of Sports and Strategic Planning from the Ministry of Higher Education, and Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of APU, whose presence added prestige to this special occasion.

Looking Ahead

As the colours faded and the participants gathered for a final group photo with their friends, they bid farewell with big smiles, each departing with colourful attire as a souvenir from the event.

One thing was clear: the APU Color Run had left a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Reflecting on the event’s success, Yu Quin added, “We’re grateful for the support from our volunteers, participants, and sponsors. This event wouldn’t have been possible without them!”

The APU Color Run 2024 not only highlighted the spirit of community, health, and unity but also showcased the power of collective action in creating positive change.

APU is proud to have hosted such an impactful event and looks forward to many more colorful adventures ahead.
