Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) MY Fintech Young Leaders Society (FYLeaderS) organised an industrial visit to PwC Malaysia.

Accompanied by Mr Hadrry Rony (Lecturer and Advisor of APU MY FYLeaderS, School of Accounting and Finance at APU) and Ms Durrah Dhaniyah (Lecturer, School of Accounting and Finance at APU), the visit brought together students primarily pursuing technology and business-related programmes; providing them with valuable exposure to the consulting profession and the diverse career opportunities available within strategy and technology consulting. 

Gaining Insights into Strategy and Technology consulting

The visit commenced with an interactive industry sharing session by representatives from PwC Malaysia, introducing students to PwC’s consulting services and industry landscape.

They shared insights into the consulting profession through a panel-style discussion, where they compared strategy and technology consulting, highlighting the distinct responsibilities, project scopes, team structures, and working styles associated with each specialisation.

The session further explored the technical and interpersonal competencies required to succeed in consulting, emphasising analytical thinking, communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability.

In addition, the representatives from PwC Malaysia shared valuable guidance on graduate opportunities, career progression pathways, employee benefits, project exposure, and potential career transitions, helping students better understand the long-term prospects available within the consulting profession.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, allowing students to seek further clarification on consulting career pathways, industry expectations, and the skills required to excel in the field.

The interaction also provided students with an opportunity to engage directly with experienced consultants from PwC Malaysia, gaining further perspectives on their experiences and career journeys.

Experiencing PwC Malaysia’s Professional Workplace

Following the sharing session, students proceeded with an office tour that provided first-hand exposure to PwC Malaysia’s professional working environment and workplace culture.

The tour offered valuable insights into the company’s collaborative workspaces and day-to-day operations, enabling students to better appreciate the environment in which consulting professionals work.

The experience also allowed students to observe how teamwork, effective communication, and innovation are integrated into the workplace to support client-focused solutions.

Through this exposure, students gained a deeper understanding of the professional setting and organisational practices that contribute to success within the consulting industry.

Connecting Students with Real-World Professional Insights

The industrial visit to PwC Malaysia demonstrated the value of real-world learning opportunities in helping students understand how academic knowledge, technical skills, and professional competencies are applied in the workplace.

Through direct engagement with industry professionals, students developed greater awareness of industry practices, career opportunities, and the competencies needed to navigate today’s evolving workplace.
