On 2nd August 2024, Tourism Management students Ly Hai Cuong, Rasha Braika, and Shayan Akhlaq from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT), guided by their Senior Lecturer Mr Yeoh Tay Boon and Lecturer Dr Lazey Doma Bhutia, embarked on a thrilling field trip to Glamz by Genting.

As part of their ‘Sports and Recreation’ module in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Tourism Management, they aimed to delve into the intersection of sports, recreation, and tourism.

Glamz Glamping, a haven of luxury and nature located at Genting Highlands, Pahang, offered the perfect setting for this experiential learning.

‘Glamping’, a fusion of ‘glamorous’ and ‘camping’, offers a luxurious twist on the traditional outdoor experience, complete with amenities and services that rival those of a resort.

Students were immersed in the world of glamping, exploring its unique accommodations, amenities, and operational aspects.

From air-conditioned tents with en-suite bathrooms to a range of indoor and outdoor activities, Glamz Glamping redefines camping.

Students were provided an overview of the day-to-day operations and guest services and the discussion covered various aspects, including booking systems, check-in/check-out processes, and maintenance of facilities.

“Students learned about the importance of personalised guest experiences, the role of staff in creating unforgettable memories, and the innovative marketing strategies that drive the site’s success,” said Dr Lazey

Ly Hai Cuong from Vietnam was captivated by how effortlessly luxury and sustainability come together in this innovative concept.

“In addition to being reasonably priced, glamping provides fresh experiences for nature enthusiasts and is a fascinating concept to learn,” he said added that “it is all about the elegant fusion of opulence with eco-consciousness.”

Meanwhile, Rasha Braika from Palestine found it fascinating to delve into the inner workings of glamping and see how it is reshaping the tourism landscape.

“The operational insights offer a deeper appreciation of glamping’s impact on the industry,” she said.

Shayan Akhlaq from Pakistan was intrigued by the concept of blending glamour with camping, a trend that elevates the outdoor experience to new heights.

He was particularly impressed by how this fusion of luxury and nature provides a refined twist on traditional camping.

“Imagine a retreat where you have all the comforts of home — running water, a cosy mattress, and a private toilet — while still being enveloped by the great outdoors.

“It is a way to enjoy nature without sacrificing convenience, offering vacationers a truly serene and stress-free escape,” he said.

As the students reflected on their experience, it became clear that Glamz Glamping had not only provided valuable insights but had also ignited their passion for eco-luxury tourism.
