APU Hosts National-Level AI Competition for Young Innovators

As a testament to its commitment to cultivating tech talent, the Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) recently hosted the National-Level AI Competition for Tamil schools.

Recognised as a Premier Digital Tech University in Malaysia, APU continues to lead the way in nurturing innovation and promoting the practical use of emerging technologies among young learners. 

Held on 12th January 2025, the competition aimed to familiarise students with Artificial Intelligence (AI) as an invaluable learning tool while fostering their creativity and problem-solving skills. This inspiring initiative welcomed 90 enthusiastic participants, who demonstrated remarkable ingenuity and originality.

The event featured two exciting segments: AI Short Film Creation and PowerPoint AI Presentation. Students showcased their talents by creating compelling short films and designing engaging presentations, each judged on a range of criteria, including creativity, coherence, and effective use of AI tools. 

The PowerPoint AI presentations were assessed for their visual appeal, font and image selection, and alignment with the assigned themes, while the short films were evaluated based on message clarity, innovative application of AI, originality, and overall impact. 

Supporting this event was part of APU’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. The university sponsored the venue, parking, meals, and lab facilities, demonstrating its commitment to creating opportunities for young learners to explore technology.

The competition was spearheaded by the School of Technology (SoT) at APU, with a distinguished judging panel led by Associate Professor Dr Selvakumar Samuel, alongside faculty members Dr Kohila Malar and Ts Umapathy Eaganathan. 

After meticulous evaluations by the judges, an award ceremony was held to honour the exceptional efforts of the participants. APU's Chief Operating Officer, Mr Gurpardeep Singh, presented prizes to the winners, celebrating their achievements and encouraging them to continue pursuing innovation.
