APU Students’ CSR Efforts Recognised by Royal Patron
On 26 October 2024, the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) received distinguished recognition from DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Hajah Norashikin, the Royal Patron of Stray Free Selangor.
At a special ceremony held at the SPCA headquarters in Ampang, Selangor, 17 APU students were honoured for their steadfast commitment to animal welfare.
Led by APU’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Gurpardeep Singh, and accompanied by School of Business Lecturer, Ms Abbhirami Sivarajan, the students received the recognition in the presence of SPCA Chairman, Ms Christine Chin.
This acknowledgement, which coincided with World Animal Day, celebrated the students’ consistent involvement in SPCA’s volunteer programmes.
APU has collaborated with SPCA since 2016, with its Foundation Programme recruiting students monthly to participate in initiatives that positively impact the community and promote ethical practices in animal welfare.
In 2024 alone, 150 new Foundation Programme students volunteered with SPCA, showcasing APU's enduring commitment to fostering a spirit of service among its students.
Beyond volunteering, APU also contributed RM10,000 to SPCA’s neutering programme under the Stray-Free Selangor initiative, a cause championed by DYMM Tengku Permaisuri Selangor.
The students’ voluntary efforts extended to SPCA’s "Potong Royong" programme, held from 9–15 December 2024, at Dewan Liparis in Kota Kemuning, Selangor.
This ongoing initiative, which offers free neutering services for cats and dogs, aims to reduce the stray animal population. APU students played crucial roles in tasks such as sterilising surgical equipment, registering participants, caring for the animals, and escorting VIPs.
Reflecting on the university's collaboration with SPCA, Mr Gurpardeep Singh remarked, “APU’s partnership with SPCA over the years has not only supported a vital cause but also fostered character development among our students. By engaging in such meaningful initiatives, they cultivate empathy and a sense of responsibility that will guide their personal and professional journeys. Their dedication exemplifies how giving back to the community enriches everyone involved.”
This recognition highlights APU's commitment to nurturing socially responsible graduates, ensuring that their contributions today pave the way for a brighter, more compassionate future.
