Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted the Final Year Project (FYP) Showcase 2025, which brought together students from 17 diverse programmes within the School of Computing (SoC) and School of Technology (SoT) to present their final-year projects.

The event served as an engaging platform for students to showcase their technical expertise, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, while interacting with industry professionals to gain insights and valuable feedback. 

The Event Process and Evaluation Criteria

The FYP Showcase featured a structured two-round judging system designed to thoroughly assess students’ projects based on innovation, technical proficiency, and presentation skills. 

In the first round, each industry judge was paired with an internal judge from APU to assess students on five key criteria:

1. Project understanding and clarity
2. Innovation and creativity
3. Technical proficiency and execution
4. Q&A engagement
5. Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) mapping

During the final round, the top 18 students presented their projects again, with evaluations focused on content storytelling, business value, language fluency, engagement, and time management. 

Additionally, a separate evaluation for the Best Poster Award was conducted, considering factors such as content, attractiveness, creativity, graphics, language, and overall impression.

Industry Engagement and Sponsorship

The FYP Showcase fostered meaningful industry-academia connections by bringing together industry judges who not only provided professional feedback but also created valuable networking opportunities, helping students explore potential career paths and industry collaborations.

Averis Sdn Bhd and Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd (PayNet) set up dedicated booths at the event, providing students with opportunities to explore potential internships and job placements while fostering direct engagement with industry professionals.

Additionally, generous sponsorships were provided by:

These sponsors contributed a total of RM13,000, which was allocated towards cash prizes as well as flight tickets for category winners, further enhancing the rewards and recognition for outstanding student achievements. 

The Showcase’s lasting Impact

The FYP Showcase 2025 marked a significant milestone in recognising student excellence, growing from a small-scale event to a full-fledged platform for innovation and industry engagement.

With a diverse range of award categories, the FYP Showcase not only celebrated outstanding projects but also encouraged students to refine their communication skills, think critically, and present their ideas effectively to industry experts.
