Student teams from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU)’s Centre of Research and Development for IoT (CREDIT) brought home an impressive collection of awards at the 9th International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada (iCAN 2024), held online on August 24, 2024.
Guided by their dedicated mentors, these pioneering students showcased visionary projects that not only highlight technological innovation but also address sustainability in transformative ways.
Maviglasses: Revolutionising Precision with Vision AI Smart Technology
The innovative team behind Maviglasses—Muhammad Ahmed, Rohit Thomas, Pua Jun Yu, and Kannan Uthaya Kumar—has developed a groundbreaking solution that promises to redefine precision inspection. Their creation, autonomous Vision AI-powered smart glasses, is crafted to deliver unprecedented accuracy and efficiency in inspection tasks across various industries. This invention captivated judges, earning the prestigious Gold Award, the International Special Award from the Hong Kong YCH STEM Faire, and the iCAN 2024 Organiser’s Choice Award. These accolades reflect the device's revolutionary potential in enhancing industry standards.
EcoDry: Pioneering Sustainable Food Preservation
Graduating student Chong Chee Kin also earned top honours for his forward-thinking project, EcoDry. This smart, eco-friendly, IoT-driven solar dehydration system reimagines food preservation by accelerating the dehydration process while promoting sustainability. Chong’s innovative design won him the Gold Award, the Special Award from the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, and the Best Invention Design Award, underscoring the remarkable efficiency and environmental consciousness at the heart of his creation.

The success of these projects owes much to the support and guidance from APU’s esteemed faculty mentors, including Assistant Professor Ir Narendran Ramasenderan, Assistant Professor Dr Lau Chee Yong, Professor Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam, Mr Krishna Ravinchandra, Ms Hema Latha Krishna Nair, Assistant Professor Dr Alexander Chee Hon Cheong, and Associate Professor Dr Siva Kumar Sivanesan. Their commitment to nurturing student potential has been pivotal in bringing these inventions to life.
