Recently, five students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), representing APU’s Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter (APU SPE SC), successfully participated in the PetroBowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers 2025, held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP).

Representing APU were Bany Zechariah Mangar Chol, Levi Louis Mark Anthony, Lucas Chiong Ju Wynne, Hazem Saeed Ali Hasyan, and Muhammad Noman Kayani.

The students were accompanied and mentored by Ir Dr Wong Siew Fan (Senior Lecturer, School of Engineering at APU), Ir Eur Ing Ts Dr Harvin Kaur Gurchran Singh (Assistant Professor, School of Engineering at APU), and Muhammad Safri Basruddin (Lecturer and Lab Technician, School of Engineering at APU).

The competition, organised by SPE International, is recognised as one of the most competitive and prestigious knowledge-based events in petroleum engineering.

This competition challenges university teams across the region to demonstrate their knowledge in areas such as petroleum engineering, energy geopolitics, industry history, and current global energy affairs through a fast-paced quiz format.

Through this platform, participants had the opportunity to:

1. Strengthen their technical and theoretical understanding of petroleum engineering.
2. Enhance soft skills such as strategic thinking, communication, and teamwork under pressure.
3. Network with peers and industry professionals from across the region.
    

As part of the experience, APU students also engaged in enriching discussions, exchanged ideas with other university teams, and were inspired by the high level of professionalism and academic excellence showcased throughout the competition.

Although the APU team did not secure a winning title, their participation representing APU reflects their strong academic foundation and commitment to continuous growth.

APU SPE SC remains committed to building on this momentum, striving for even greater achievements in competitions to come.
