The School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently organised an engaging visit to the KLPodcast Studio, Petaling Jaya, offering students invaluable exposure to the world of podcasting.
Led by Dr Mohanaapriya Sina Raja (Part Time Lecturer, SoMM at APU), the visit offered students an unparalleled opportunity to delve into the art and mechanics of podcast production within a professional studio environment, enhancing their understanding of this influential medium.
Exploring Podcasting
The visit began with an engaging introduction to the podcasting process, where students explored key elements such as brainstorming creative ideas, structuring content, and handling professional recording equipment.
Under the guidance of the studio’s experts, they delved into the intricacies of audio production, from mastering sound quality to creating engaging narratives.
This hands-on session culminated in the creation of three mini podcasts, each reflecting the students’ diverse perspectives and showcasing vibrant, thought-provoking discussions.
Mastering collaboration and technical skills
In addition, the students had the opportunity to experience the collaborative dynamics of a professional studio setting.
They worked closely in teams to refine their content, develop compelling scripts, and experiment with different recording techniques.
The session also included a practical briefing on the technical aspects of podcasting, such as microphone usage, sound editing, and managing studio acoustics.
Refining Interview techniques and Communication skills
During their time at the studio, students also had the chance to engage in live mock interviews, which allowed them to practice their interviewing skills in a controlled, real-world setting.
They formulated questions, conducted interactions with their peers, and received constructive feedback on how to improve their communication techniques.
This experience gave them valuable insight into the nuances of conducting successful interviews, from building rapport to maintaining a conversational flow.
Student Perspectives
Shee Mei Jun, a student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Media and Communication Studies, found the visit exhilarating, gaining hands-on experience in a professional studio setting and was particularly inspired by the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world environment.
Adifna Rukmanady, another student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Media and Communication Studies, found the visit highly rewarding, as it provided an exciting opportunity to collaborate with peers on a podcast project, strengthening his confidence in using podcasting as a medium for future content creation.
