A Transformative Journey Empowering Refugee Students Through Digital Literacy

On April 26th, a remarkable transformation unfolded within the walls of Elshaddai Refugee School as teenagers embarked on a journey of digital literacy. Organised by APU's School of Foundation (SoF), this event marked the beginning of a dynamic series aimed at enhancing the digital skills of refugee students for three months.

The second workshop series on Digital Literacy was not merely a programme but a collaborative endeavour between the school and APU student volunteers, promising engaging and interactive sessions tailored to meet the unique needs of the refugee students.

At its core, the event aimed to introduce students at Elshaddai Refugee School to the essentials of digital literacy through immersive workshops. By providing hands-on experience with tools like PowerPoint, the objective was clear: to empower students with practical skills vital for success in today's increasingly digital world.

Furthermore, inclusivity and community were central themes, ensuring that every student had the opportunity to participate and benefit from the programme. APU student volunteers played a pivotal role, fostering an environment where collaboration thrived, and every voice was heard.

As the event unfolded, anticipation filled the air, and excitement bubbled among children and volunteers alike. With a warm welcome, the workshop kicked off, setting the stage for an inclusive and engaging learning experience.

Under the guidance of dedicated APU volunteers, the refugee students eagerly delved into the world of digital creation, exploring PowerPoint's features with enthusiasm. Throughout the session, collaboration and camaraderie flourished as students supported each other and shared ideas, fostering meaningful connections that transcended cultural barriers.

A highlight of the event was the dynamic interaction between refugee children and volunteers, showcasing the power of mutual learning and understanding. As the session drew to a close, participants left inspired by the possibilities of digital literacy, equipped with newfound skills and confidence to navigate the digital landscape.

Reflecting on the event, it represented a pivotal step toward empowering refugee students with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital world. As a collaboration between Elshaddai Refugee School and APU's School of Foundation continues, the promise of a brighter future for refugee education and empowerment shines ever brighter.
