The Intensive English Programme is structured into 7 levels, taking students from complete basic level to being prepared to successfully complete an advanced course. Students will be placed in one of these 7 levels based on the results obtained in the APU English Competency Test.

At each Level, 4 key skills are given special attention to:

  • LEVEL STARTER (Designed for students with almost ZERO English proficiency)
    Reading(RW), Speaking and Listening (SSP), Grammar (GRM) & Vocabulary Enhancement (VE)
  • LEVEL 1 - 6 (Embedded grammar in all skills)

Note:

- All fees are payable in USD. If payment is made in Ringgit Malaysia (RM), the current exchange rate of USD 1 = RM 4.00 as of 1st January 2019 will be used and is subject to adjustment, due to fluctuations in the currency exchange rate.
 
- For students continuing to APU Academic Programmes, payment of New Visa Application Fee, International Student Registration Fee, Course Fee, Miscellaneous Fees, Accommodation Fees and etc is required. Accommodation Cover Charge will be waived.
 
- Students are required to cancel their study visas 2 weeks before departing and RM 53 will be charged for cancellation.
 
- Deposits serve as the Personal Bond will be refunded upon completion of studies. The Deposits will not be refunded should any situation arise where the student is found to have either misused their visa or violated any regulations applicable to International Students in Malaysia. In addition, if students fail to cancel study visas 2 weeks prior to departure, the deposit will be forfeited as well.
 
- All Deposits will be refunded in Malaysian Ringgit (RM).


IELTS WORKSHOP FOR TEST PREPARATION

Prepare for the IELTS test and gain valuable test practice and exam structure. This is a 16-hour workshop designed for APLC IEP package students at intermediate, upper intermediate and advanced level, who need to prepare for the IELTS.

General English 

This course is designed to improve your grammar, listening, conversation, reading and writing skills. It will improve your confidence and ability in using English language for work and study.

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

  • apply English to basic everyday situations
  • make use of simple information such as announcements, instructions, directions
  • apply the use of basic English grammar
  • read and write simple messages and texts

IELTS Preparation

IELTS Preparation (Academic) will support you in tackling the IELTS test. The course follows the format of IELTS very closely and prepares you to successfully attempt each part of the test with rich array of interactive learning materials and by developing your English skills over a broad range of topics. All learning activities in this course have been designed by a team of IELTS teachers and examiners, using authentic materials and a wealth of tips and advice. The course is built around a series of characters and scenarios and Oska, your mentor, will guide you through your learning, introducing you to a diverse set of experiences as you go.

The learning outcomes are:

Listening:

  • focus your listening in relation to a purpose

  • select information from an audio text to complete a task

  • identify essential information from a variety of sources

Reading:

APLC provides a 16-hour Workshop to prepare students for IELTS examination. The IELTS 16-Hour workshop is RM960.


Executive Writing

Executive Writing provides a rich learning experience where students will develop a wide range of Executive Writing skills, all in the context of working at WebFurn, an Internet based furniture company.

On starting the course, you will take on a role as a Sales Manager at WebFurn. In this role you will learn how to interact in an executive business environment and build an understanding of both the language and the processes of business. You will be expected to read a variety of business texts and learn how to write them. You will also have the opportunity to listen to texts and to learn how to take notes from them. You will be invited to create presentations, resumes and a variety of other documents.

The course is designed around a set of tasks, with each task being broken into a number of activities. Whilst the course has been created to represent four weeks of work at WebFurn, it can of course, be completed at your own pace. You might choose to complete this short intensive course quickly, or to proceed more leisurely through the tasks.

Upon completing this course, you will be able to:

  • read and understand business texts 
  • write a range of business correspondence, including business emails, faxes, memos, letters, agendas, meeting notes, quotes, presentations and contracts of sale 
  • listen to and take notes from, voicemail messages
  • participate in and administer business meetings 
  • perform a wide range of business tasks and functions as a business executive

Academic Research And Writing Techniques

The second type of part time course that we have available is a specially tailored programme to meet the demands of college level academic writing and research skills. This programme will employ an interactive-student-centred mode of delivery along with a process-oriented approach to help course participants develop and improve their academic writing and research skills. This course requires you to attend evening classes.

  • understand various patterns of essay organisation
  • support ideas with specific and factual details
  • use quotation, paraphrases and summaries to quote the work others
  • understand academic in-text citation and referencing to avoid committing plagiarism
  • understand and use different types of sentence patterns to create a smooth flow in writing
  • understand common and regular sentence errors to achieve clarity in writing
