Environmental Education Collaborate with NGOs at APU

Our Commitment

At Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), environmental education is more than classroom teaching — it is a platform for empowerment, institutional change, and community collaboration. Our environmental education measures inform and support sustainability through partnerships with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), extending our impact beyond campus into the wider community.

How We Inform Understanding

  • Through workshops, seminars, and campaigns, we inform students, staff, and community members about key environmental issues and actions.

  • In July 2025, APU students participated in the "Students Cultivate Green Minds" programme with the NGO Free Tree Society, where they learned about tree-planting, ecosystem restoration, and outreach work.

  • In July 2024, APU organised “Active Environment & Social Consciousness”, an awareness campaign involving creative recycling activities and collaboration with local NGOs and community partners.

  • These initiatives ensure that environmental education measures inform the APU community about climate resilience, waste reduction, and sustainable living.

How We Support Action

  • APU’s partnerships with NGOs translate environmental education into direct community action — from clean-ups and tree-planting to awareness drives and youth empowerment projects.

  • In November 2024, APU and several NGOs collaborated to empower youth, women and girls through sustainability and leadership initiatives.

  • These efforts support APU’s long-term environmental policy and Malaysia’s national climate commitments, reinforcing the goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. (APU Environment & Climate Action Policy)

Why Collaboration with NGOs Matters

NGOs bring valuable community networks and expertise, allowing APU students and staff to gain hands-on experience in environmental advocacy and project implementation. Through these collaborations, education becomes service-oriented and action-driven — bridging academic knowledge with real-world sustainability outcomes.

Monitoring Our Progress

APU’s ongoing progress in climate and environmental education is documented through the university’s annual SDG Reports, reflecting contributions to SDG 13: Climate Action. (APU SDG Report)

Summary

At APU, environmental education collaborate with NGOs to inform and support climate awareness, community participation, and sustainability leadership. Through these partnerships, APU strengthens environmental literacy and translates learning into action for a more sustainable and resilient future.
