APU Business Students Gain Real-World Insights at Spritzer Bottling Plant

On 9 July 2025, a group of 32 Business Studies students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on an enriching field visit to the Spritzer Bottling Plant in Taiping, Perak.

Representing Foundation, Diploma, and Master’s programmes, these students—specialising in Supply Chain and Logistics Management, International Business, and taking the module Introduction to Business—were guided by Ms Shailaja Kumar from the Graduate School of Business and Ms Cynthia Mala Paul from the School of Business.

The visit exemplified APU’s commitment to experiential learning by immersing students in the real-world applications of business operations, logistics, and sustainability.

Experiencing Innovation in Action

As Malaysia’s leading bottled water brand, Spritzer provided students with a first-hand perspective on how modern logistics, automation, and environmental stewardship converge in a dynamic industrial environment.

The guided tour unveiled Spritzer’s state-of-the-art manufacturing and logistics facility, equipped with advanced robotics and automation technology sourced from China and Switzerland.

From raw material handling to automated bottling and packaging, students observed the entire end-to-end production and logistics flow, reinforcing key principles taught in their academic modules.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

During the briefing, students gained first-hand insights into how modern logistics, automation, and environmental stewardship converge in a dynamic industrial environment.

The tour was not only observational but deeply interactive. Students explored critical topics such as inventory management, warehouse design, lean operations, quality assurance, and environmental compliance, aligning perfectly with global frameworks like SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Curiosity ran high as students posed thoughtful questions on AI-driven forklifts, lightweight PET packaging, and Spritzer’s sustainability initiatives. Company representatives offered insights into how technology and eco-conscious practices can co-exist, ensuring both operational efficiency and environmental protection.

Voices from the Experience

During the field visit, APU’s Business Studies students witnessed classroom concepts come to life in a real-world setting, while also gaining valuable insights into eco-friendly practices at the production line.

For a Master of Business Administration with a specialism in Supply Chain Management student, Cabir Ismael Cabir from Mozambique, the visit was nothing short of transformative:

“Visiting Spritzer was a genuinely eye-opening experience. It was inspiring to see how classroom concepts come to life in a company that blends innovation with strong environmental values. Their use of lightweight packaging, low-emission PET materials, and AI-driven forklifts reflects a real commitment to reducing waste and emissions.”

His coursemate, Muhammed Zahir Raroth, echoed this sentiment:

“The trip was both informative and engaging. Observing automation in action and understanding eco-friendly practices gave us invaluable insights. Plus, tasting four different product flavours was a refreshing bonus!”

This visit reaffirmed APU’s strong emphasis on industry engagement and practical learning as vital components of academic excellence. By bridging theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial practices, APU ensures its students are future-ready—equipped not only with academic insights but with the ability to navigate the evolving demands of global business and sustainable supply chains.

At APU, learning goes beyond textbooks—it connects classrooms to the world.
