On March 5, 2025, students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) collaborated with The Lost Food Project (TLFP) to combat food waste and hunger. This initiative builds on the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between APU and TLFP in 2023, further strengthening their commitment to addressing food insecurity and promoting sustainability.

Organised by APU’s Sustainable Future Fusion (SFF) club, students participated in hands-on food rescue workshops, reinforcing food sustainability, social responsibility, and community service.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 2 (Zero Hunger): Providing food security for vulnerable communities.
- SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption & Production): Reducing food waste sustainably.
- SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and non-profits.
The Lost Food Project Feeding Communities Efficiently

TLFP is a food rescue network redistributing surplus food to over 10,000 people weekly, including the elderly, orphans, homeless individuals, people with disabilities, refugees, and B40 communities. With a strong logistics system comprising chiller trucks, warehouses, and dedicated professionals, TLFP ensures efficient food handling and distribution.
APU’s Student Engagement in Sustainability

APU students played a key role in food rescue workshops, focusing on cleaning and preparing rescued produce. This hands-on experience enhanced their understanding of food safety and waste reduction while fostering a sense of social responsibility. The initiative was also guided by Ms Cynthia Mala Paul Dorairaj, advisor of SFF@APU and lecturer at the School of Business (SoB), who provided valuable mentorship and support throughout the programme.
Khoo Lay Yang, Founder and President of SFF, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computer Science with a specialism in Cyber Security student, highlighted the impact: “With over six workshops completed, we’re not just raising awareness but driving real change in food sustainability.”
