APU’s Year-End Self-Care Initiative Leaves a Lasting Impact

Hosted at the Centre of Psychology and Wellbeing in collaboration with doTERRA Malaysia, the “Year-End Self-Care Initiative” transformed the space into a tranquil retreat designed to help APU staff unwind and recharge.

The initiative offered a range of restorative experiences, including calming hand and head massages, a workshop on mindfulness techniques, essential oils paired with practical exercises, and even manicure services for the ladies. This unique offering served as a timely reminder to prioritise self-care, particularly during the demanding year-end period.

Wellness Designed with Care

Spearheaded by Ms Vinorra Shaker, Head of School, and led by Ms Amirah Husna, Psychology Lab Technician, with support from Lecturer Ms Dhevaania C. Gendsen, the initiative was rooted in a thoughtful purpose.

“The initiative was our heartfelt thank you for your tireless dedication, unwavering support, and hard work throughout the year. In the busyness of life, this was our way of offering a peaceful space where you could pause, breathe, and indulge in a moment of self-care,” stated Ms Vinorra.

The activities were curated to provide both emotional and physical rejuvenation. From soothing massages complemented by the healing benefits of aromatherapy to mindfulness workshops that introduced practical stress-management techniques, the event aimed to holistically nurture participants’ well-being. Essential oils were a key feature, providing natural ways to reduce tension and find balance, all while promoting emotional health.

In alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being, the initiative highlighted the importance of wellness as a fundamental pillar of life.

Extended by Popular Demand

The enthusiastic response from the APU community led to the event being extended until 6th December, ensuring everyone had an opportunity to participate. Reflecting on the event, Ms Vinorra shared her gratitude: “The response was truly heartwarming, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve our community in this meaningful way. As we transition into 2025, we look forward to creating more spaces of care, growth, and collaboration. Wishing you a holiday season filled with peace, joy, and moments of self-care. May you step into the new year with a heart full of gratitude and renewed energy.”

The “Year-End Self-Care Initiative” served as a reminder that even amidst life’s hustle, moments of peace and reflection can make all the difference. With this meaningful close to 2024, APU looks forward to fostering continued care and collaboration in the years to come.
