APLC’s biggest-ever Summer English Camp concluded with a spectacular grand finale of cultural performances, where every single student took part.

The Asia Pacific Language Centre (APLC) at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently brought its biggest-ever Summer English Camp to a spectacular close with Rasa Sayang 2025: A Celebration of Unity and Culture.

Held on 15th August at Auditorium 1 on APU’s iconic campus, the event drew more than 450 students and staff, transforming the evening into a dazzling showcase of Malaysian traditions, student creativity and the commitment of APLC’s teaching team.

What made this celebration extraordinary was the inclusivity — every single Summer English Camp student took part, turning the campus into a living stage of colour, rhythm and culture.

A Dance Through Malaysia’s Heritage

Traditional dance performances were the result of two weeks of intensive practice, with students and teachers rehearsing tirelessly to perfect every step.

Each class presented a traditional Malaysian dance, ranging from the lively Joget and the rhythmic Borneo Dance to the graceful Mak Inang, an expressive Indian Contemporary, and a show-stopping high-energy Bhangra.

These performances were not spontaneous. They were the fruit of two weeks of intensive practice, with students and teachers rehearsing tirelessly to perfect every step. They provided a mesmerising journey through Malaysia’s cultural heartbeat that left the audience applauding with delight.

A Runway of Colours

Adding further sparkle, the cultural fashion show brought Malaysian heritage to life. Students walked the runway in traditional attire such as Baju Kurung, Sarees, Cheongsams, Baju Melayu, Kurtas and Sherwanis, each garment a symbol of cultural identity.

As the spotlight shone, students wore their outfits with confidence and pride, celebrating Malaysia’s diversity while embracing it as their own.

Beyond the Ordinary: Guest Performances

The energy soared as guest performers took the stage. Highlights included a powerful Silat demonstration by Gelanggang Silat, an electrifying Diabolo act by an APU student, a thrilling Karate showcase by Summer English Camp participants, and the graceful Zapin Borneo by the Rentak Tari Dance Academy.

The audience was treated not only to Malaysia’s cultural treasures but also to global artistic expressions, reflecting the international spirit of APU and APLC.

Creativity Takes the Spotlight

The evening also featured the APLC Merdeka Video Project Awards, where creativity was celebrated with trophies, certificates and, most importantly, thunderous applause. For many students, it was their first time being recognised on stage — an empowering milestone.

Voices of Joy: Students Speak

Rasa Sayang 2025 left the performers with unforgettable memories to cherish for a lifetime.

The most memorable part of Rasa Sayang was hearing the students’ reflections, filled with pride, joy and gratitude.

“It took us two weeks of practice, but it was worth it. I felt so proud dancing in front of everyone. I never thought my shyness would just fade off, as I have never done anything like this back in Japan!” — Saaya Ichikawa, Japan.

Performing on stage became a personal breakthrough and a platform for building confidence.

“I never thought I could perform on stage. It was fun, energetic and unforgettable. I am so excited to bring this memory back to my family! I am smiling ear to ear seeing my friends on stage today.” — Bugaenko Anfisa, Russia

“Wearing the traditional saree made me feel part of Malaysia’s culture. It was colourful and beautiful. I would love to return to Malaysia. All thanks to APLC for giving me this opportunity!” — Kuanysh Nikol, Kazakhstan.

“This was more than just an event, it was about friendship, teamwork and celebrating together. We will remember this moment and the friends we made at APLC.” — Aseel Hussein Faisal, Sudan & Hammam Abdulhakim Rabea, Yemen.

“I can never see anything like this in my country, where the entire globe is under one roof! I’m so lucky today!” — Moeka Lino, Japan.

“I was so nervous at first, but my teachers encouraged me every step of the way. Dancing on stage with everyone made me feel brave and proud of myself.” — Pochueva Valeriia, Russia.

Reflections from the Organisers

Rasa Sayang would not have been possible without the dedication of APLC’s teaching and events team.

Event Coordinator Ms Nur Nazrin Hadia reflected, “The teamwork between students and teachers, on and off stage, was as inspiring as the performances. Everyone played a role in making it unforgettable.”

Event Planner Ms Sharen Kaur added, “Our aim was for every student to take part. With the dedication of our teachers and the enthusiasm of our students, Rasa Sayang 2025, our biggest intake ever, created memories beyond a Summer English Camp, and APLC was proud to make that possible.”

More Than a Celebration
