In a heart-warming initiative focused on fostering well-being, students, and lecturers from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently collaborated with Suriana Welfare Society, bringing the concept of mindful eating to life for children.

This impactful event saw 18 dedicated APU Foundation programme volunteers’ team up with three lecturers Ms Iman Danish Sha, Ms Ruthira Nair A.B Krishenan and Ms Anuratha Kanniah from the School of Foundation (SoF).

The programme aimed to educate the Suriana children on healthy eating habits through engaging and interactive sessions, highlighting the importance of being aware of what and how one eats.

This hands-on approach ensured the children not only gained valuable knowledge but also enjoyed the learning process.

The APU volunteers found the experience deeply rewarding. Omar Ahmed Fekry, a Foundation programme student, shared his positive takeaways.

“Volunteering in Suriana was a very interesting experience as I helped teach the kids present, which was very fun as they were very interested in what I had to say and were very interactive and supportive.

“They gained knowledge and had fun simultaneously. It was a very pleasant experience.”

Another volunteer, Haemaavadhaana Seemadaran, reflected on the emotional impact of the day.

“Personally, volunteering at Suriana was a heart-warming experience. Engaging with the kids through fun activities and mentoring sessions taught me the value of empathy and connection.

“It was inspiring to see their smiles and growth, and I am grateful for the chance to make a small, positive impact in their lives.”

This collaboration between APU and Suriana Welfare Society exemplifies a commitment to community engagement and promoting essential life skills.

By teaching mindful eating, the volunteers have empowered these children with habits that will contribute to their health and well-being for years to come.
