The School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) under the coordination of Ms Raihan Munira Moh Sani (Lecturer, School of Psychology) and supported by Mr John Khong, Programme Coordinator in wellness X dignity, conducted a meaningful outreach programme at Dignity for Children Foundation, Kuala Lumpur on 19th November 2025.
Bringing together eight psychology students, the initiative served not only as an academic experience, but also as an opportunity for them to witness inclusive education approaches in action, while engaging with children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
Through quality education, Dignity for Children Foundation empowers underprivileged urban children to overcome poverty and bring meaningful change to their lives and communities.
Navigating Social Media Mindfully

As part of the learning experience, APU students facilitated a workshop titled “Psychology of Social Media use,” focusing on key themes such as emotional responses to online interactions, identity development in digital spaces, and strategies for healthier, more mindful media engagement.
The session began with an interactive ice-breaker where students and participants shared their favourite social media platforms, opening the floor for discussions on how these platforms shape daily behaviour and emotional well-being.
Participants then engaged in a reflective activity, “Real me vs Online me,” where they illustrated the differences between their authentic selves and their online personas.
This creative exercise encouraged thoughtful conversations about self-expression, identity, and the subtle pressures that come with curating a digital presence.
On top of that, practical tips for digital well-being were shared, including limiting screen time, curating positive content, practicing gratitude, and actively engaging online rather than scrolling passively.
The workshop concluded with a reminder that social media is a tool whose impact depends on its use, and that practicing mindfulness, authenticity, and responsible online behaviour helps young learners develop positive digital identities that support their emotional and psychological well-being.
Reflections on the Outreach Programme

Reflecting on the outreach programme, Ms Raihan shared that it created a meaningful space for students and participants to explore how psychology can be applied in real-world digital challenges.
“Our goal is to show that social media can be a positive space when used mindfully, empowering individuals, especially young learners, to cultivate self-awareness, resilience, and authenticity in both their online and offline lives.”
This outreach programme reflects APU’s ongoing commitment to education with empathy and impact, as SoP continues to create opportunities where students apply theoretical knowledge within meaningful community contexts.
