The School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), under the guidance of Ms Raihan Munira Moh Sani (Lecturer, School of Psychology), carried out a meaningful community engagement visit to Rumah Bakti Nur Ain on 31st July 2025.

The initiative, which formed part of the Cognitive Psychology module, brought together 10 psychology students from APU who combined learning, compassion, and service in supporting orphans and underprivileged children residing at the home.

The day began with warm introductions and a tour of the home, coordinated by Ms Siti Nur Ain Syazwani, Teacher at Rumah Bakti Nur Ain.

As part of the learning experience, Ms Raihan guided students on how information is stored in long-term memory by highlighting key cognitive processes such as encoding, rehearsal and retrieval, and showing how these concepts connect theory to practice in an engaging and meaningful way.

The children’s enthusiastic participation turned each activity into a joyful and enriching experience, creating moments of laughter, learning, and genuine connection.

Beyond the classroom-inspired engagements, the students also contributed food items to provide lunch for the children, symbolising their care and commitment to holistic community support.

Reflections on the Community Engagement Visit

Ms Raihan shared that the community engagement visit created a valuable space where students could link classroom knowledge with lived experience.

On top of that, she highlighted how impressed she was by the students’ dedication, adaptability, and compassionate approach in making the activities both educational and enjoyable for the children.

“It is in these moments that education truly meets humanity, reminding us that the ultimate purpose of learning is not only to gain knowledge, but to apply it with compassion and service to society.”
