Yishen was accompanied by Ms Norain Alwi (Lecturer, School of Mathematics, Actuarial, and Quantitative Studies at APU), who provided invaluable academic guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support throughout his preparation and participation in the competition.

A Two-Stage National Challenge

The competition was held in two rounds:

  1. Preliminary Round: 26th April 2025 (Online Mode via Microsoft Teams)
  2. Final Round: 10th May 2025 (Physical Mode at Dewan Al-Ghazali, UiTM, Shah Alam)

The competition tested participants across a broad range of mathematical domains, including calculus, algebra, trigonometry, and more.

Open to Malaysians aged 10 to 25, the competition drew nationwide attention with 96 participants making it to the final round, to which it includes 25 students proudly representing APU.

Advancing to the final round, APU students travelled to UiTM, Shah Alam, where they competed amongst the country’s top young mathematicians.

Out of the many talented finalists, Yishen stood out with his exceptional mathematical skill, earning him Second Place, along with a cash prize of RM150 and a certificate of achievement.

A Moment to Remember

Reflecting on his experience, Yishen expressed how taking part in the competition was both a challenge and an eye-opener.

“It pushed me to think beyond textbook methods and apply my knowledge in new and creative ways.

“I had to adapt quickly, stay calm under pressure, and trust my problem-solving instincts throughout the process.

“Not to forget, i am truly grateful to APU for the unwavering support and the opportunity to grow, as it inspired me to push my limits and aim even higher,” he said.

APU’s Commitment to Academic Excellence

This national-level achievement is a testament to the mathematical strength, dedication, and talent of APU’s student community.

On top of that, APU remains committed to nurturing bright minds through a strong academic foundation, expert mentorship, and platforms that encourage critical thinking and excellence.
