Three students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) recently had the unique opportunity to visit the renowned Bangi Resort Hotel in Selangor.

With over 26 years of operation, Bangi Resort Hotel has firmly established itself as a premier Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) destination in the region.

Known for its unwavering commitment to excellence, the resort prides itself in delivering outstanding service and creating memorable experiences for every guest.

The visit was led by a team including Mr Chung KY Soh, Executive Director of Bangi Resort and Development, alongside Ms Wong Pei San, Guest Experience Manager of Bangi Resort.

The students — Noa Kurogi, Onindo Lawrence Perera, and Amin Ali Haimoud — were accompanied on a comprehensive tour designed to deepen their understanding of hospitality revenue management.

During the tour, the group was exposed to major hotel operations. Chef Lee Chan Hee, Director of Kitchen Operations, together with Assistant Restaurant Manager Thiruselven K. Gunasekaran and Banquet Supervisor Muhammad Zainiq Ismail Bakri, provided significant insights into housekeeping, food and beverage (F&B), kitchen operations, and the revenue department.

Meanwhile, Ms Wong Kwan Tai, Group Director of Revenue, delivered an engaging session on hotel market segmentation, the role of online travel agencies (OTAs), and the dynamics of room rate fluctuations and occupancy forecasting.

Students also had the chance to learn about front office operations from Assistant Front Office Manager, Mr Muhammad Syukri Rozlan, who explained guest check-in procedures, group arrivals, and room inventory management.

The team was further supported by Assistant Executive Housekeeper, Ms Teri Bukoh.

Onindo Lawrence added, “This visit helped me gain a clearer understanding of both hotel operations and revenue management. Overall, it was an exciting and fun trip for all of us.”

Noa Kurogi shared her thoughts, saying, “Seeing Bangi Resort’s modern work culture up close was truly insightful. I was impressed by how interns and employees are treated equally and entrusted with meaningful responsibilities.”

APU SoGHT Senior Lecturer, Mr Shazeel Ali Sardar Ali highlighted the value of the visit as “well-organised and engaging trip” that allowed students to see firsthand how operational and financial strategies come together in a real hospitality environment.

“The session on revenue management was especially beneficial, bridging theory with practical industry applications, and showing how data-driven decisions maximise hotel performance.”

The visit not only enhanced students’ academic knowledge but also provided them with practical insights that will undoubtedly support their future careers in the hospitality and tourism industry.
