The experience inspired dreams of five-star hotel careers, deepened students’ understanding of hotel operations, and solidified their interest in hospitality and tourism, highlighting the importance of teamwork, innovation, and service excellence.

A recent visit to the Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel & Convention Centre proved to be a transformative experience for Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Global Hospitality and Tourism (SoGHT) students.
Led by Senior Lecturer, Mr Yeoh Tay Boon, the excursion offered a unique blend of academic learning and practical insights into large-scale hotel operations and event management.
The Renaissance, known for its modern luxury and cultural flair, recognised for its blend of comfort, convenience, and value, provided the perfect backdrop for students to observe best practices within the Marriott International portfolio.
The visit allowed students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, gaining a holistic understanding of the complexities of the hospitality industry.
“They learned the crucial role of teamwork, innovation, and a dedication to service excellence,” said Mr Yeoh Tay Boon.
Spark Dreams for Tourism Students

According to students in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Tourism Management programme, the visit to the Renaissance sparked their dreams of working in an international five-star hotel, provided a great experience on the operational side, and ignited their interest in pursuing careers in hospitality and tourism.
For Noa Kurogi from Japan, the visit to the Renaissance was not just a tour; it was a revelation.
“The moment I stepped inside,” she shared, “I was so impressed. The scent, the grandeur, the elegance, and every detail amazed me.
“I realised hotels give us dreams, and hospitality is an amazing industry.”
Onindo Lawrence Perera from Bangladesh also found the visit invaluable, gaining a deeper understanding of hotel operations and the work environment.
“The experience ignited a new ambition: to work in an international five-star hotel. This helped me see what it is really like,” he explained.
Similarly, Pham Duc Duong from Vietnam was captivated by the experience at Renaissance.
“I did not expect it to be so wonderful. The managers were so open-minded, showing us all the facilities. It’s sparked my interest in a hospitality and tourism career.”
