APU Students win Awards at MakeWeekend Robotics Challenge!

Over the weekend dated on 27th to 28th April 2013, our School of Engineering students under the guidance of Mr. Arun Seeralan took part in the in 2 categories of the Makeweekend Robotic and Drone HACKATHON Competition @Taylor's University.

The competition was a focused two day workshop which was designed for students particularly from the engineering faculty, although all were welcome to participate. The competition is to create new applications, products or services. MakeWeekend is endorsed by the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).

The competition had two categories and there were many teams from different local universities who competed in these two categories;

1- Water Drone Competition
2- Awesomeness Challenge

The winners of the Water Drone Competition was a team from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), comprising Obay Fares Alashkar, Suhail Sadeq Noman Al-Nabhani, Rajaram G., Lew Yew Ken and Logashrri R. Gangatharan.

Another team also from APU won the Awesomeness Challenge, building an autonomous robot. Team members were Chu Chee Wee, Kok Khah Whey, Tee Chin Ka, Ali Ahmadian Mazraeh and Sina Enteshari.

It was good achievement by our students as it was the first time that we were engaged in this competition. It was not the typical build-before and then compete but rather design and engineer a product at the workshop itself. It is an achievement by the students and a true testament of the quality engineering education that the School of Engineering lecturers at APU have provided as the applications/theories have worked out in the final product design output.
