APU holds first-ever QR IT SEEK competition!

The first ever QR IT SEEK competition held on 15 May 2013 saw encouraging participation from 100 students in 50 teams. The QR IT SEEK competition was a fun and simple way to introduce edutainment and outside classroom learning using their mobile devices. The competition was organized by the Application Cluster Lecturers and supported by the ICT and INT Cluster.

Each team consisting of 2 members and with a mobile device (e.g. phone, iPod Touch) were required to seek and decode a series of 20 QR Codes that were hidden in random locations around the TPM main building. Each code, when scanned by the mobile device, would turn into a quiz question relating to a study topic. Some of the questions tested existing knowledge while some other questions required further research to obtain the answer. (Note: A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smartphones).

After almost 2 hours of seeking and decoding, participants were ready to rewarded for their efforts. The top 3 team winners – Team Exercise; Team Umbrella Corp Crew and Team Gamma, received attractive prizes ranging from Canon E510 All in One Printer; Western Digital 500GB External hard Drive and Zitech Portable Powerbank. The next 4 team winners – Badboys; 1.2K; 1200Won; and Tau Fu Fa were also handsomely rewarded for their efforts. Well done to the teams and thank you for the support and participation in making this a fun event!
