Yew Choon Yuen, a General Information Technology student from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), recently clinched first place in the PKA Anti-Corruption Video Competition held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

The competition was organised in conjunction with the 58th anniversary of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), alongside other events such as the IPT Anti-Corruption Debate Competition under the prestigious MACC Chief Commissioner’s Cup 2025.

This marks Choon Yuen’s second major award this year, following his first prize win at the MyDuitStory 5.0 competition during the Sasana Symposium 2025.

His latest submission, aligned with the theme ‘Stories from the Future’, envisioned a Malaysia ranked among the top 25 in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) — a future where transparency, accountability, and integrity are the nation’s guiding principles.

“In this future Malaysia, government decisions are transparent, e-Procurement systems ensure fair contracts, and cashless transactions allow citizens to monitor public spending.

“Robot-run roadblocks eliminate corruption, and those caught accepting bribes face over 10 years in prison. The message is clear, a corruption-free Malaysia starts with each of us,” said Choon Yuen, explaining the concept behind his video.

Beyond the competition, the experience proved personally enriching.

“I had the chance to meet other contestants and social media influencers during the awards ceremony.

“It was inspiring to observe how successful people communicate and present their ideas,” he added, “The results really exceeded my expectations. I did not think I could win as an individual entry competing against group submissions.”

“I enjoyed the process not just because I won, but because I learnt a lot. I was able to apply my visual communication skills and reinforce the mindset that you can achieve anything if you believe in it.”

For his winning effort, Choon Yuen took home a RM5,000 cash prize and a trophy, a well-deserved recognition of both his creativity and commitment to promoting a corruption-free Malaysia.

He would also like to thank the Head School of General Studies (SoGS), Mr Ragunathan Ayyavoo; his Kursus Integriti dan Anti-Rasuah (KIAR) Module Senior Lecturer, Ms Munirah Salamat; and Ms Nurul Farhanah Mohd. Nasir, AMAR Club Advisor, for their support and guidance.
