APU Men’s Volleyball team secured Second Runner-up at the Malaysian IPTS Sports Council (MASISWA) Major Sports Championship 2025, with their leader, Ryan Tan Teng Wei, praising the team’s hard work and resilience despite a challenging loss, and looking ahead to future success.

This year’s Malaysian IPTS Sports Council (MASISWA) Major Sports Championship 2025 saw the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) compete fiercely in three sports: men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, and netball.
APU Men’s Volleyball team delivered a standout performance, clinching the Second Runner-up spot.
“This is my second time competing in this tournament,” said Ryan Tan Teng Wei, the Men’s Volleyball team leader.
“Team APU has joined the MASISWA Men’s Volleyball event on several occasions before, but this year was a real test of our commitment.”
The team, composed of thirteen dedicated players: Someshwar Saravanan, Huang Jia Dong, Chai Yui Ren, Ryan Tan Teng Wei, Lim Tai Jing, Jeconiah Khonry Tang, Badr Mahdi Mubarak Alamri, Lim Xuan, Chang Kai Yang, Tai Zhen Zhou, Bany Zechariah Mangar Chol, Wong Yik Shern, and Yeo Wen Le, showed incredible resolve.

According to Ryan, they trained consistently with one of the nation’s top development coaches and even committed to at least two external gym sessions a week.
Despite their hard work, they faced a stroke of bad luck in the semi-finals, where they were pitted against the reigning champions, Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TARUMT) team.
While team APU is renowned for being the only squad to truly challenge the dominant TARUMT team, they ultimately lost out on a vital win.
The skill gap was significant, as APU’s team consists mostly of amateur players, whereas TARUMT’s roster boasts national and SUKMA athletes.
“We have learnt that victory demands immense sacrifice. It takes blood, sweat, tears, time, and money,” Ryan explained.

“It can be a lot for some of the players to bear, but I am incredibly proud of how every single one of them pulled through for each other, right until the very end.”
Ryan’s reflections went beyond the game, highlighting life lessons from the competition.
“This experience showcased many different aspects of life, like the importance of teamwork, attention to detail, and the power of perseverance. We know our journey has not reached its climax just yet, but when that day comes, it will be a cherished achievement for every player who has worn the APU name.”
Looking ahead, APU Men’s Volleyball team is already focused on the future. They will continue to rebuild, strengthen their existing skills, and work towards future glory.
The APU Women’s Volleyball team fought their way to the quarterfinals, while the APU Netball team advanced to the group stage, showing great effort in their respective competitions.

“All sports clubs at APU are currently beginning preparations for the upcoming Higher Education Institutions Games (SUKIPT) scheduled to be held in April/May 2026 at the University of Malaya (UM),” said Assistant Manager, Sports Development and Student Affairs, Mr Ahmad Mohammad.
“APU encourages all athletes to prepare and build on the momentum gained from this year’s tournament and aim for even greater achievements.”
